Code of Conduct
The main aim of the School is to advance the educational achievement of all pupils.
The Governors of the School will provide a strategic view for the School; they will act as Critical Friend to support and question the School; they will hold the School to account for care and safety of children, the educational standards achieved and the quality of the education provided.
The Governors of the School will monitor and review the policies, plans and procedures which are used by the School.
The Governors of the School will share all responsibilities jointly, except where individual Governors have been given delegated authority to act on behalf of the Governing Body.
COMMITMENT
We accept that taking office as a Governor commits us to significant amounts of time and energy.
We undertake to attend meetings regularly, and to take responsibilities on committees or working groups.
Those charged with providing information will do their best to circulate paperwork a week before meetings. We will undertake wherever possible to read paper work before meetings and to come prepared to question and clarify the information provided.
We undertake to get to know the School well through visits and meetings with staff.
We will undertake training as required, and as appropriate to individual governor responsibilities.
RELATIONSHIPS
We will undertake to work as a team.
We will seek to work effectively with staff, parents and Local Authority and other agencies.
CONFIDENTIALITY
We will observe confidentiality when required to do so, and especially in matters concerning staff and students.
We will exercise discretion if contentious issues arise.
We will continue to observe confidentiality about the School, on ceasing to act as a Governor.
CONDUCT
We encourage expression of views, but accept collective responsibility for all decisions made by the Governing Body.
We will only speak or act on behalf of the Governing Body when authorised to do so.
We will follow the School’s Complaints procedure in responding to criticisms or complaints.
Our visits to School will be made using the guidelines laid down in Governor Visits Policy.
We will carry out our duties in a way that supports and maintains the ethos and reputation of the School.
In all matters concerning Holtsmere End Infants and Nursery School we will conduct ourselves in a manner that does not bring disrepute on the School e.g. in use of social media.
